Meli Madrigal, B.A.

Meli is a Spring 2020 graduate of the BA in Environmental Planning and Design program, with a concentration in Community and Regional Planning. Xe minored in Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability. Xe was also a part of the Honors College’s Student Association. Meli is currently taking a gap year before pursuing a master’s degree in Sustainability Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, concentrating on Agriculture and Food Systems.

Meli is the Community and Regional Planning student working with the Southwest EFC in the Water Resources Grand Challenges intradepartmental team. Xe collaborated with xir teammates to the graphic aspect of the videos and helped compile research regarding the jurisdiction of water in the state of New Mexico, as well as help answer the questions regarding quality and origin of water. All of this was placed into the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, in a podcast that helped answer the community’s questions about water utility during this time.

Meli has participated in the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Conference as well as the First Year Research Experience on a food system and resiliency project with Dr. Bruce T. Milne and an exploration of visual artifacts in the context of the cultural and historical evolution of Route 66. Meli worked as the Environmental Living Learning Community Resident Advisor for the 2019-2020 year.
